England has been one of the formidable teams in cricket for quite some time, but they have not received much recognition due to some poor performances in ICC events, especially the 50-over World Cup. The 2019 ODI World Cup, however, changed everything, as England won their first ever ODI World Cup and were crowned as world champions. 1. Graham Gooch

Graham Gooch, a right-handed top-order batter from Essex, is the first to feature on the list. From 1979 to 1992, Gooch represented England in four ODI World Cups and played in 21 matches. He scored 897 runs, the highest for any English batter in ODI World Cup history, at an average of 44.85, with one hundred and eight fifties to his name.

2. Ian Botham

One of England’s best players in the 80s, rightly known as Sir Ian Botham, is next on the list. He was a right-handed batter and a right-arm fast bowler who featured for England in four ODI World Cups from 1979 to 1992 and played 22 matches. He picked up 30 wickets at an average of 25.40 and an economy of 3.43 and also scored 297 runs in 18 innings.

3. Joe Root

Joe Root, England’s best batter at present and a former captain, is next on the list. Root is a right-handed top-order batter from Yorkshire and has featured in two ODI World Cups (2015 and 2019) until now. In 17 World Cup matches, he has scored 758 runs at an impressive average of 54.14, with three hundred and three fifties to his name.

4. Ian Bell

Next, we have a right-handed top-order batter from Warwickshire known for his elegant and classy stroke-play, Ian Bell. Bell represented England in three ODI World Cups from 2007 to 2015 and played in a total of 21 matches, scoring 718 runs at an average of 35.90 with six fifties to his name.

5. Phil DeFreitas

Phil DeFreitas, one of England’s most prolific pace bowlers in the late 80s and early 90s, is the next to feature on the list. He was known for his unorthodox sling bowling action. 6. Allan Lamb

Allan Lamb, a right-handed middle-order batter born in Cape Province, South Africa, is the next to feature on the list. Lamb represented England in three One-Day International World Cups (1983–1992), appearing in 19 matches. He scored 656 runs at an impressive average of 50.46, with one hundred and three fifties to his name.

7. Andrew Flintoff

Andrew Flintoff, popularly known as Freddie, and one of England’s most crucial all-rounders, is the next to feature on the list. From 1999 to 2007, Flintoff played in 18 ODI World Cup matches for England taking 23 wickets at an average of 23.21 and an economy of 3.93. He also scored 263 runs at an average of around 20.

8. Graeme Hick

Graeme Hick is a former right-handed middle-order batter and a part-time right-arm off-break bowler born in Harare, Zimbabwe. Hick featured in 20 ODI World Cup matches for England from 1992 to 1999 and scored 635 runs at an average of 42.33, with one hundred and six fifties to his name.

9. Chris Woakes
