The year 2008, was a time when cricket’s shortest format was in its infancy. The ICC had recently concluded a 20-over World Cup that was capped off by probably the greatest rivalry of all time with India. The coming victorious against their arch-rivals Pakistan in the grand finale, the Board of Control for Cricket in India or BCCI introduced a first-of-a-kind T-20 league based on the franchises of different Indian cities, where players across the globe could participate. The players were sold to the highest bidder in an auction held every year for the upcoming season. Australian players have always garnered special attention and attracted high bids in each season on expected lines. Moreover, with the addition of new players to the auction pool and players that are released by their current franchises, many players end up representing more than one franchise in their IPL careers.

10. Andrew Tye

The tall right arm-pacer was a part of the Chennai Super Kings set-up in 2015 but did not play even a single game. He played his first match in IPL 2017 for Gujarat Lions, picking up five wickets in his debut that also included a hat-trick. In the year 2018 auction, Tye was snapped by the Kings XI Punjab (Now Punjab Kings), where he ended up winning the purple cap in the 2018 season. Tye also represented Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 season.

9. Chris Lynn

Chris Lynn made his IPL debut for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers in the 4th season of the IPL. He was then released by the franchise and picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 6th season of the IPL, but his most successful stint came for the Kolkata Knight Riders after being bought in 2014. Lynn scored 491 runs for KKR in the 2018 season, his best in a season of IPL. He was released after 2019 and was bought by Mumbai Indians, and has since been a part of the five-time champions.

8. Daniel Christian

Christian made his debut in the IPL for the Deccan Chargers in the year 2011. He was then bought by The Royal Challengers Bangalore in the year 2013 IPL auctions but failed to deliver. After being unsold at the 2014 auction, Christian was roped in by the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017. He represented Delhi Daredevils in 2018 before returning to RCB for the 2021 season.

7. Mitchell Marsh

The younger brother of Shaun Marsh, Mitchell made his IPL debut for Deccan Chargers and was also a part of the set-up that won the trophy in 2009. He also represented Pune Warriors India for three seasons from 2011 to 2013. After being unsold in the auction a couple of times, Mitchell Marsh was picked up by Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017. Marsh also represented Sunrisers Hyderabad, although his stint with the franchise was cut short due to injury.

6. Nathan Coulter Nile

Coulter Nile started his IPL journey with Mumbai Indians, making his debut in 2013, the same year which saw the Mumbai franchise win its first title. Nile was then bought by Delhi Daredevils in 2014 and offered his services for three seasons before being snapped by the KKR in 2017. Coulter Nile was also a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore set up in 2018 and 2019 before moving back to Mumbai in 2020.

5. Glenn Maxwell

Often referred to as “The Big Show” of cricket, the Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell made his IPL debut in 2012 for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). After faring poorly, he was released and picked up by Mumbai Indians before moving to Kings XI Punjab in 2014 (the best season for Maxwell). Maxwell was bought at the 2021 IPL auction by RCB for a hefty amount. He ended up being the leading run-scorer for his side with 513 runs, at a strike rate of 144.

4. Ben Cutting

Cutting, a hard-hitting Australian all-rounder, was firstly a part of the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the fifth edition of the IPL but didn’t play even a single game for the side. He made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals in 2016. Ben also represented the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 and 2017. He is known for his Man of the match performance in the 2016 edition of the IPL final where he helped SRH clinch their maiden IPL title with his all-around efforts. Ben has also represented Mumbai Indians and will be donning the Kolkata Knight Riders shirts after the franchise secured his services at the 2021 IPL auctions.

3. Moises Henriques

Moises Henriques was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders set-up when he made his IPL debut back in 2009. He later played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2010, he also represented Mumbai Indians in 2011 and Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013. Still, it wasn’t until 2014 when he started getting a consistent stint with his new franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. Henriques was also a part of the David warner SRH squad that lifted the IPL trophy for the first time in 2016. The all-rounder was then snapped by the Punjab Kings in the 2021 IPL auctions.

2. Steven Smith

Steven Peter Devereux Smith, or simply Steve Smith was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2010 but didn’t feature in any game for the franchise. In the 2021 IPL player’s auction, Smith was bought by the now-defunct franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala but was ruled out due to an ankle injury. The Pune Warriors India secured his services at the 2012 IPL auction and he featured in a handful of games before being picked up by the franchise he experienced the most success with. In the 2014 IPL auction, he was bought by Rajasthan Royals and was later appointed as the captain of the team. During the 2-year ban of the franchise, Smith represented Rising Pune Supergiants. He later returned for RR but not as the skipper. He was picked by the Delhi Capitals side in the 2021 IPL player’s auction.

1. Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch made his debut for the Rajasthan Royals side in 2010 before being bought by the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) side in 2011. He also represented Pune Warriors India in 2013 and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014. He was bought by the Mumbai Indians in 2014 before being ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Aaron was bought by the Gujarat Lions in 2016 and offered his services to the side for two seasons and by Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2018 auction. He decided to opt-out of the 2019 season of the IPL to prepare for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL2020 auctions and went unsold in the 2021 IPL auctions.
