The fame of One-day International matches after the beginning of the ODI World Cup is known to all. Heretofore many great players have played this format and scored a lot of runs. High-scoring matches with good averages are the marker of the game. The Australian cricket team is said to be one of the best ODI teams in ICC. The team played its first One-Day International (ODI) against England in 1970–71. The article praises the top 10 Australian cricketers who have played the maximum number of ODI matches.

1. Ricky Thomas Ponting 

Ricky Thomas Ponting is a former right-hand top-order batter who played his first ODI match on 15 February 1995 against South Africa at Wellington. He is a man of records with several records. Some of them are- Most ODI centuries by an Australian, 3rd most runs in ODI career in all time, 3rd most ODI hundred in all time, 3rd most ODI fifties in all time, etc. He played 374 matches and scored 13589 in 364 innings with an average of 41.81 and 29 centuries. Ponting played his last game against India at Brisbane on 19 February 2012.

2. Stephen Rodger Waugh 

Stephen Rodger Waugh is a former right-hand middle-over batter who played his first ODI match on 9 January 1986 against New Zealand at Melbourne. He played 325 games and scored 7569 runs with an average of 32.90 and three centuries. Waugh played his last match against South Africa in Perth on 3 February 2002.

3. Adam Craig Gilchrist 

Adam Craig Gilchrist is a former left-hand wicketkeeper batter who played his first ODI match on 25 October 1996 against South Africa at Faridabad and the last game against India at Brisbane on 4 March 2008. He played 286 games and scored 9595 runs with an average of 35.93 with 16 centuries. Gilchrist holds many records in wicket-keeping. Some of them are 2nd most dismissals in a career and 472 in total. He also has the record for the most number of catches in his career that was 417 catches.

4. Allan Robert Border 

Allan Robert Border is a former left-hand batter and slow left-arm orthodox bowler who played his first test match on 13 January 1979 against England in Sydney. He played 273 games and scored 6524 runs with an average of 30.62 and three centuries. Border played his last match against South Africa in Bloemfontein on 8 April 1994.

5. Glenn Donald McGrath 

Glenn Donald McGrath is a former right-arm fast-medium bowler. On the ground of Melbourne, he played his first ODI match on 9 December 1993 against South Africa. The bowler took 381 wickets in 250 games with an average of 22.02 and played his last on 28 April 2007 against Sri Lanka at Bridgetown.

6. Michael John Clarke 

Michael John Clarke is a former right-hand middle-order batsman who was also the captain of the world cup winning Australian team of 2015. He made his ODI debut on 19 January 2003 against England at Adelaide and played 245 games. Clarke scored 7981 runs in 223 innings with an average of 44.58 with eight centuries. He declared his retirement after winning the world cup final on 29 March 2015 against New Zealand.

7. Mark Edward Waugh 

Mark Edward Waugh is a former right-hand batter and a right-arm medium bowler. On 11 December 1998, he made his ODI debut against Pakistan at Adelaide. The batsman played 244 matches and scored 8500 runs with an average of 39.35 with 18 centuries. Waugh took retirement from test cricket after playing his last game on 2 February 2002 against South Africa at Perth.

8. Michael Gwyl Bevan 

Michael Gwyl Bevan is a former left-hand batter of the Australian team. He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka at Sharjah on 14 April 1994. Being a part of two World Cup wins in 1999 and 2003, Bevan holds the record for best average from Australia with an average of 53.58. He played 232 matches and scored 6912 runs in 196 innings with six centuries. Bevan played his last game against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

9. Brett Lee

Brett Lee is a former right-arm fast bowler who made his ODI debut on 9 January 2000 against Pakistan at Brisbane. He played 221 games and took 380 wickets with an average of 23.36. Lee holds the record for fastest 300 and 350 wickets. He played his last match against England on 7 July 2012 at Chester-le-Street.

10. Damien Richard Martyn 

Damien Richard Martyn is a former right-hand top-order batter. He made his ODI debut against West Indies in Sydney on 8 December 1992. Damien played 208 matches and scored 5346 runs in 182 innings with an average of 40.80 with five centuries. He announced his retirement after playing against West Indies at Mumbai on 5 November 2006.
