A batter never wants to get out on a duck, as it is one of the most humiliating things for a batter on the field. However, a number of batters have been dismissed without scoring a run, but some batters took quite a while before getting out on a duck during their careers. Today we will see some of the Australian batters play most innings before getting out on a duck.

1. Alan Davidson

Alan Davidson was a left-handed batter from Gosford, New South Wales, who used to bowl left-arm fast medium. Alan made his Test debut in 1953 against England at Nottingham. He played 44 Test matches for Australia and, in 61 innings, scored 1328 runs. He got out for a duck for the first time in his career after 51 innings against England at Manchester in 1961.

2. Michael Clarke

Michael Clarke was a right-handed middle-order batter for Australia who made his Test debut in 2004 against India at Bengaluru. Clarke featured in 115 Test matches and scored 8643 runs at an average of 49.10. He scored his first duck after 46 innings against India at Sydney in 2004.

3. Chris Rogers

Chris Rogers was a left-handed opening batter from Sydney, New South Wales. Chris played his first Test in 2008 against India in Perth. Until 2015, he played in 25 Test matches and scored 15 runs at an average of 42.87 with the highest score of 173. He got out without scoring for the first time after 45 innings. This happened in 2015 against England at Nottingham.

4. Michael Slater

Michael Slater was a right-handed opening batter from Wagga Wagga, New South Wales. In 1993, he played his first Test match against England at Manchester and represented Australia in Test cricket until 2001. He scored over 5300 runs in 74 Tests at an average of 42.83. He went out without scoring a run in the Test innings after 44 innings.

5. Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting was a right-handed top-order batter from Tasmania and one of Australia’s most influential captains. Ponting was in the Australian Test team from 1995 to 2012 and played in 168 Test matches. In 1999 he recorded his first duck in Test cricket after 44 innings against Pakistan at Brisbane.

6. Neil Harvey

Neil Harvey was a left-handed batter from Melbourne, Victoria, who first played for Australia in Test cricket in 1948 against India at Adelaide. Neil played in 79 matches and scored 6149 runs at an average of 48.41 with 21 centuries to his name. He recorded his first duck in 1953 against England at Nottingham after 41 innings.

7. Bill Ponsford

Bill Ponsford was a right-handed batter for Australia during the 20s from Melbourne, Victoria. In 1924, he played his maiden Test match against England at Sydney. Until 1934, he featured in 29 Tests for Australia and scored 2122 runs at an average of 48.22. In 1933, in a Test match against England at Brisbane, he scored his first duck in Test cricket after 40 innings.

8. Mark Taylor

Mark Taylor was a left-handed opening batter for Australia who was part of the Australian Test team from 1989 to 1999. Taylor played his first Test against the West Indies at Sydney. He played 104 Tests and gathered 7525 runs at an average of 43.49. He got his first duck in Test cricket after 38 innings against the West Indies at Georgetown in 1991.

9. Paul Sheahan

Paul Sheahan was a right-handed opening batter for Australia. In 1967, he played his first Test against India at Adelaide, and until 1974 he played in 31 Tests for Australia. He scored 1594 runs at an average of 33.91. In 1970, he recorded his first duck in Test cricket against South Africa at Johannesburg after 37 innings.

10. Brad Haddin

Brad Haddin was a right-handed wicketkeeper batter from New South Wales. Haddin was amongst the most successful Australian wicketkeepers and was an influential member of the team. From 2008 to 2015, he played in 66 Test matches and scored 3266 runs at an average of 32.98. His first duck in Test cricket came after 37 innings against Pakistan at Melbourne in 2009.
