The ICC ratings reveal the top-ranking performers in the team who have shown their dominance in every match. The ICC ranking index categorizes the players based on a point system worked by a series of calculations. Each player is allocated points for every ODI match that they perform. Then the average is computed for all the ODI matches played during the concerned period. The final rating indicates the average run of the player.
1. DI Gower
David Ivon Gower is a former left-hand top-order batter of the England side. Gower played his first ODI match against Pakistan at Manchester on 24 May 1978 and his last game against New Zealand at Auckland on 16 February 1991. During his career, he played 114 ODI matches and scored 3170 runs in 111 innings. His average was 30.77. His career-best rating of 919 is the best career rating by an English batter in ODI. Gower achieved this career rating on 15 June 1983 against New Zealand.
2. AJ Lamb
Allan Joseph Lamb is a former right-hand middle-order batter in the English side and played his first ODI match on 2 June 1982 against India at Leeds and his last game against Pakistan at Manchester on 24 August 1992. Lamb played 122 games and scored 4010 runs in 118 innings with an average of 39.31. He achieved his career-best rating of 897 against Pakistan on 2 March 1985.
3. GA Gooch
Graham Alan Gooch is a former 6ft right-hand top-order batter in the English side and played his first ODI match on 26 August 1976 against West Indies at Scarborough and his last game on 10 January 1995 against Australia at Melbourne. He achieved his career-best rating of 863 against Pakistan on 22 November 1987.
4. KP Pietersen
Kevin Peter Pietersen is a former right-hand top-order batter on the English side. KP made his ODI debut on 28 November 2004 against Zimbabwe at Harare and played his last game against Australia at Southampton on 16 September 2013. With his unorthodox batting style, he achieved the record of 3rd fastest to score 1000 runs in 21 innings and 2nd fastest to score 2000 runs in 45 innings. He played 136 games and scored 4440 runs in 125 innings with an average of 40.73. On 8 April 2007, he achieved his career-best rating of 833 against Australia.
5. RA Smith
Robin Arnold Smith is a former right-hand batter in the English side and played his first ODI match on 4 September 1988 against Sri Lanka. His last game was against Sri Lanka that was scheduled at Faisalabad on 9 March 1996. Smith played 71 games and scored 2419 runs in 70 innings with an average of 39.01. He achieved his career-best rating of 830 against Australia on 21 May 1993.
6. JE Root
Joseph Edward Root is a right-hand top-order batter in the current English squad. Joe is among the Top 4 batter of the current generation, who played his first ODI match on 11 January 2013 against India at Rajkot. He holds the record of 5th fastest 3000 runs in 72 innings, 3rd fastest to 4000 runs in 91 innings, 5th fastest to 5000 runs in 116 runs, 5th fastest to 6000 runs in 141 innings. The batter played a total of 152 ODI games and scored 6109 runs in 142 innings with an average of 51.33. He achieved his career-best rating of 824 against Sri Lanka on 13 October 2018.
7. GA Hick
Graeme Ashley Hick is a former right-hand middle-order batter who played his first ODI match on 23 May 1991 against West Indies at Birmingham and his last game on 27 March 2001 against Sri Lanka at Colombo. Hick played 120 games and scored 3846 runs in 118 innings with an average of 37.33. He achieved his career-best rating of 815 against Australia on 10 January 1995.
8. ME Trescothick
Nicknamed the Banger, Marcus Edward Trescothick is a former left-hand batter and right-arm medium pacer in the England cricket team. He was the opening batsman and also did wicket-keeping occasionally. Trescothick also captained the team in two test matches and 10 ODIs. The batter made his ODI debut on 8 July 2000 against Zimbabwe at The Oval and his last game against Pakistan at Southampton on 5 September 2006. He played 123 games and scored 4335 runs in 122 innings. The average in the matches was 37.37. He achieved his career-best rating of 797 on 28 June 2003 against South Africa.
9. JM Bairstow
Jonathan Marc Bairstow is a combative wicketkeeper-batter in England cricket team. Nicknamed the Bluey, he is a middle-order batter. The cricketer made his ODI debut on 16 September 2011 against India at Cardiff. He achieved his career-best rating of 796 on 26 March 2021 against India. He has played 89 matches and smashed 3498 runs in 81 innings with an average of 47.92.
10. IJL Trott
Ian Jonathan Leonard Trott is a former right-hand batter and right-arm medium bowler. He made his ODI debut on 27 August 2009 against Ireland at Belfast and his last game against Australia at Cardiff on 14 September 2013. Trott played 68 games and scored 2819 runs in 65 innings with an average of 51.25. He achieved his career-best rating of 796 against South Africa on 19 September 2013.
