Indian cricket team comprises players from every zone of India. Initially, there were players from a particular state, but in years ahead, there was a new addition from every state. BCCI started conducting Ranji and Duleep trophies, which served as a platform for different state players. Let’s review the list of the top 10 players from the east and northeast zone.

1. Pankaj Roy

When we talk about players from the East zone, Pankaj Roys comes first. He is one of the great players on the Indian cricket team. He was a former skipper too. We all know them for his contribution to the highest opening partnership of 413 runs against New Zealand. The player from Kolkata, has scored in many opportunities for India. He has 5 centuries under his name. His jersey number was 54. He played from 1951 to 1960. He was a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium-pace bowler.

2. Sourav Ganguly

The next player from the East zone is Sourav Ganguly. He is often regarded as Dada. He is one of the greatest players ever on the Indian Cricket team. He even led the team during his playing tenure. He had a controversial segment with Greg Chappel. He is often praised for creating and establishing a platform for new-generation players. He is even into commentary and on the board of members of BCCI. He was the 35th BCCI president and retired a few days before. He was a left handed batsman and had 16 centuries under his name. He was also rewarded with Padma Shri and Arjuna Award.

3. Mahendra Singh Dhoni

The third player on the list is one of the greatest captains and players of the Indian cricket team. He is non-other than MS Dhoni. He is a great wicketkeeper-batsman for the Indian team. He is the only captain who won 3 ICC trophies, that is, 2 World Cups and 1 champion trophy. He also has an impressive record in IPL too. He is inspired many players all over the world and is an iconic model for all new budding cricketers. He has 16 centuries and 108 fifties under his name. He scored more than 10000 runs playing lower order position. He is rewarded by Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, the ICC team, and captains.

4. Wriddhiman Saha

The next player is Wriddhiman Saha. He is one of the good players from the North East zone. He plays from Tripura in a domestic format. He plays for Gujarat Titans in IPL. He is a good wicket-keeping batsman who represented India in all formats. Later in his career, he represented India in test formats. He has 3 test hundred. He played some crucial knocks for India and helped from many collapses. In recent years he was in the headlines when a West Bengal journalist was banned for bullying him.

5. Arun Lal

Arun Lal is one of the oldest players from the East zone. He used to play for Bengal in domestic. He played for India in the late 80s and was a good player at that time. After his career ended in cricket, he was more focused in a commentator professional. He did commentate in many matches. But soon, life took a turn for him, and his health made him unavailable from off-field cricket activities. He was diagnosed with jaw cancer later in his life. He also faced criticism when he used to train players in the Bengal camp for his harsh training methods. He used to train them really hard, which players found uncomfortable. He was a gritty right-handed player for team India.

6. Deep Dasgupta

The next player on the list is Deep Dasgupta. He is a former ex-player of the Indian Cricket team. Nowadays, he is busy in the commentator profession. He didn't play many matches for India. He played only 5 one days of international and 8 test matches. We all know him because of his good commentating skills and his skills in pre and post-match presentations. He played for India in his early 20's. He has one century and 2 fifties under his name. He was an opening wicketkeeper batsman.

7. Manoj Tiwari

The next player is Manoj Tiwari on the list. He is a great domestic player from West Bengal. He is a right-handed batsman who bowls part-time. He often plays in Indian Premier League. He was in teams like Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Nightriders, and Rising Pune Supergiant.  He played only 12 one-day international matches and 3 t20 international matches for India. He has one century and one half-century for India. In his later half of life, he focused on politics more. He is a member of AITC. Under her political leadership, he serves as Minister of Sports and Youth of the West Bengal state.

8. Ashok Dinda

The next player on the list is Ashok Dinda. He is a right-hand fast bowler from the East zone. He is a great player in the domestic forum. He is often a more expensive bowler in Indian Premier League. He was elected as MLA in 2021. He is a member of the Bhartiya Janta Party of West Bengal. He played for Bengal and Goa in the Ranji tournament. In near to 2010, he debuted for India and played a good number of matches. But unfortunately, he didn't play for a long time. Nowadays, he is more inclined toward politics than cricket.

9. Debasish Mohanty

The next player is ex Indian National cricket team player. Debasish is the only cricketer from Odisha who represented the Indian team. He played 2 test matches and 45 one-day international matches. He represented team India in the late ‘90s. He also served as a national selector of the Indian National team. He was a right-arm, medium-pace bowler who used to ball at an accurate average, line, and length. He later joined the coaching profession. He used to train players in Bay oval and also trains players in Odisha. He also coached the East Zone team in winning the Duleep trophy. He works under Nalco. He also served as coach of the Odisha Ranji team.

10. Rohan Gavaskar

Rohan Gavaskar is the next player on our list. He is the son of the former great player of the Indian cricket team Sunil Gavaskar. He is a left-handed middle-order batsman and Orthodox spin bowler. He didn't play many matches for the Indian cricket team. He played only 11 one-day international matches for India. After his cricket career, he joined the commentator club. He worked for Star Sports, NDTV club, and so on.
