Batting in away conditions in test cricket is more difficult than in home conditions. The difference is more apparent in test cricket than in limited overs. We will now have a look at the top scores made by Indian batsmen in away conditions in test cricket.

1. Virender Sehwag Vs Pakistan (2004)

This match was the first match of the same series discussed previous to this. This was the first ever individual triple century by an Indian batsman. Sehwag was nicknamed ‘Multan ka Sultan’ after his triple hundred in this match. Thanks to Sehwag’s triple hundred, India posted 675-5 and declared. India went on to secure an inning victory. Virender Sehwag scored 309 runs in this innings.

2. Rahul Dravid Vs Pakistan (2004)

This match was quite smooth sailing for the Indian team. Pakistan posted 224. In reply, Dravid scored a double hundred and had ample support from Parthiv Patel, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly. Thanks to Dravid’s double century, India managed a comfortable innings victory. This was the series decider and India won the three-match series 2-1. Rahul Dravid scored 270 runs in this innings.

3. VirenderVs Pakistan (2006) 

This match belongs to the India tour of Pakistan 2006. This match had Sehwag score quick but also for a prolonged period. He scored a quickfire double hundred and India declared the innings three balls later. This match was ended up as a draw.  Virender Sehwag scored 254 runs in this innings.

4. Sachin Tendulkar Vs Bangladesh (2004)

Sachin scored his highest test score in this innings. This was the first test of the series. India posted 526 in reply to Bangladesh’s 184. India then bowled out Bangladesh for 202 in the second innings and won the match quite comfortably by an innings and 140 runs. Sachin Tendulkar scored 248 not out in this innings.

5. Sachin Tendulkar Vs Australia (2004)

This match was the third match of the same series mentioned in the previous one. This knock is known for the determination and self-control of Sachin. Leading into the match, he got out trying to play cover drive way often than not. In this innings however, he managed a good self-restraint and did not attempt for a single cover drive in his double century. He managed to stay not out till India declared the innings. This match got drawn. Sachin Tendulkar scored 241 not out in this innings.

6. Rahul Dravid Vs Australia (2003)

This was the second match of the four-match series between Australia. India managed to achieve a 1-0 series lead due to Rahul Dravid’s double century in the first innings. He also scored a half-century in the second innings.  Rahul Dravid scored 233 runs in this innings.

7. Sunil Gavaskar Vs England (1979)

This was yet another second innings masterclass from Sunil Gavaskar. England set a massive 438 as target for India. Gavaskar produced a double hundred. Though there were two half centuries from other top order batsmen, he was largely present without support. India managed to get close enough at 429-8 before the match ended up being a draw. Sunil Gavaskar scored 221 runs in this innings.

8. Sunil Gavaskar Vs West Indies (1971)

Sunil Gavaskar scored a century first innings and India still ended up with a 166-run deficit after West Indies finished batting. Gavaskar scored a splendid double hundred and managed to set an imposing target of 262 against West Indies. Sunil Gavaskar scored 220 runs in this innings.

9. Sanjay Manjrekar Vs Pakistan (1989)

This match was the third match of the four-match series in India tour of Pakistan with both the previous matches ending up as draw. India batted first and posted 509 thanks to Sanjay Manjrekar’s double hundred. This match also ended up as a draw. Sanjay Manjrekar scored 218 runs in this innings.

10. Rahul Dravid Vs England (2002)

This match was the final test in the India tour of England with the series level at 1-1. The match turned out to be a high scoring one as England scored 515 batting first. India in reply scored 508 thanks to Dravid’s double century. The match ended up being a draw. Rahul Dravid scored 217 runs in this innings.
