Sachin Tendulkar had an illustrious test career spanning 24 years. Over the course of his test career, he scored 51 centuries, which included 6 double centuries. We will now have a look at his top 10 scores.

10. Nottingham, 177 vs England (1996)

This was the third and final match of the Test series in India tour of England. England were leading 1-0 at the start of the match and India had to win the match to square the series. However, it was soon found out to be a difficult task due to the fact that the pitch was flat and was not expected to give a result. India won the toss and chose to bat and posted 521 thanks to a 177 from Sachin. However, as expected, the match did end up in a draw, when England too posted 500+ in reply to India’s 521.

9. Nagpur, 179 vs West Indies (1994)

India largely dominated this match when they chose to bat first and posted 546 due to Sachin’s 179. However, an exceptional all-round performance by Carl Hooper who took a fifer and scored two half-centuries ensured West Indies fought back strong. A sturdy defensive knock of 148-ball 23 from Jimmy Adams ensured India didn’t win the match as this ended up as a draw.

8. Leeds, 193 vs England (2002)

India had a dominating performance in this match. Including Sachin, there were three centurions for India in the first innings. India scored 628 and bowled out England twice and ended up winning by an innings and 46 runs. Till date, this is the only instance of India winning a match by an innings, in England.

7. Multan, 194* vs Pakistan (2004)

When Sehwag scored 309 in this match, India had its first ever player who scored an individual triple century. However, Sachin’s 194* proved to be a controversial moment. Sachin was batting at 194* when the captain Rahul Dravid decided it was enough batting and declared the innings as they needed enough time to bowl out Pakistan. As it turned out, they did bowl out Pakistan with enough time to spare and this has since then stirred the debate on whether Dravid should have let Sachin to bat till his double century.

6. Nagpur, 201* vs Zimbabwe (2000)

India had already won the first test of the two match test series and this was the second match. Sachin scored his first overseas double hundred but the pitch turned out to be too flat to enable a result and the match ended up being a draw.

5. Colombo, 203 vs Sri Lanka (2010)

This match had a very flat track. Sri Lanka batted first and scored 642-4 and then declared. In reply, India scored 707, courtesy Sachin’s 203. Sri Lanka in their second innings scored 129-3 and the match got drawn

4. Bengaluru, 214 vs Australia (2010)

Australia toured India for a two-match test series and this was the second match. Australia put up a big total of 478 and India managed to attain a slender lead of 17 due to Sachin’s 214. India won the match and the series and Sachin ended up becoming No.1 ranked batsman in ICC test rankings after his heroics this test.

3. Ahmedabad, 217 vs New Zealand (1999)

India was 1-0 coming into the final test of the series. India batted first and put up a mammoth 583 due to Sachin’s maiden double hundred. The total ended up being huge as New Zealand had to play catch-up for the remainder of the match and this match went on to become a draw.

2. Sydney, 241* vs Australia (2004)

This knock is an example of determination and self-control. Cover drive was Sachin’s trademark shot and he played that quite often. Leading into the match, he got out trying to play cover drive way often than not. So, in this particular innings, he decided to not play a single cover drive and all the deliveries in that area, he decided to leave. He stayed on in the crease and scored 241 runs but did not play a single cover drive. He did not get out till the end and the innings got over only when India declared the innings.

1. Dhaka, 248* vs Bangladesh (2004)

This knock is Sachin’s highest score in his test career. This was the first test of the test series in India tour of Bangladesh and India posted 526 in reply to Bangladesh’s 184. India then bowled out Bangladesh for 202 in the second innings and won the match quite comfortably by an innings and 140 runs.
