South Africa team is considered the chokers in cricket because of so many choked moments. We often have the determination that now no one can beat South Africa, but still, we have seen many results against South Africa from nowhere. Still, we have supported South Africa for many years doesn’t matter where we are from. South Africa is a team with a lot to still achieve as per their values. There are many rumored stories in which we heard that because of a racist culture in South Africa, a black lady cursed the South Africa team that they can’t win any big tournament. The story is true, but the South Africa team is still waiting for their first victory in a big game.

1. 1992 World Cup

In 1992, the South Africa team played the ODI world cup, and it was an honor for the team because they were returning from the ban after so many years. They lost the semi-final against England due to the not-so-right rule at that time of DRS.

2. 1996 Quarter Final

In 1996, the South Africa team played well in the tournament but again choked in the quarter-final against West Indies, which gets plugged by 19 runs. It was a vast dramatic match, and the West Indies team was powerful because of Brian Lara.

3. 1999 Semi-Final

In 1999, South Africa was in the semi-final, and they needed 16 on ten balls to go in the final. They have Lance Klusener on the crease, but we realized that South Africa had lost the match when the match finished. It was a pinch for every cricket fan.

4. 2007 Semi-Final

This time it was again Australia in front of South Africa, but like how they played so well in the 1999 semi-final, South Africa gave up in the match, and Australia won the game very quickly. And again, they were the chokers of the tournament but did not criticize them because they were not as good as many fans expected.

5. 2007 T20 Durban

The host of the first T20 world cup South Africa was the best in the tournament with the best T20 players, and they showed their capability also in the first four matches. But then, facing a young team India they choked, chasing 154, and they lost the game and got eliminated from the 2007 T20 World Cup.

6. 2009 T20 Semi-Final

This time it was the T20 world cup, and everyone’s favorite South Africans were in the semi-final without losing any tournament matches. This time against Pakistan, they lost the game by seven runs, and it was again called a choked moment for South Africa.

7. 2011 Quater-Final

This time, the South Africa team was with one of the best teams in South Africa, but from this time, all cricket followers were waiting for the choking moments. New Zealand scored just 231 runs, and it was an easy chase for the South Africa team, but no, what we were waiting for happened, and South Africa’s batting collapsed. It became one more choking moment for the South Africa team.

8. 2012 World T20

This time they were ranked as the 2nd in the T20s, and they had an excellent chance to improve, so they played worst, losing against teams like India, England, and Pakistan. This time they didn’t even make their way to the top 4 in the tournaments, and this big team didn’t expect it.   

9. 2015 Semi-Final

It was the last ODI world cup of AB de Villiers, and fans were expecting the South Africa team to do well now. Still, we saw two bad things on that day. First, South Africa choked against New Zealand again, like the 2011 world cup, and AB de Villiers cried on the field, which was heart-breaking for the whole world doesn’t matter they love AB de Villiers or not.

10. 2019 World Cup

The 2019 world cup changed the South Africa team without a player like AB de Villiers. There were no big players in the new South Africa team, and the new captain was Faf du Plessis, and they choked in the tournament since inception only, so they choked before the quarters.
