The West Indies team is regarded as a powerhouse in the game's shortest format, i.e., T20 cricket, and has produced many renowned players until now. The big, powerful, and muscular power-hitters from the Caribbean are favourites amongst fans around the world. We shall now name some of the West Indies players with the highest number of fifties in T20 international cricket.
1. Chris Gayle
Chris Gayle, one of the best T20 players in world cricket and a West Indian legend, is the first player to appear on our list. Gayle hails from Jamaica and played as a left-handed opening batter for the West Indies. From 2006 to 2021, he played in 79 T20 internationals for West Indies and scored 1899 runs at an average of 27.92, including 16 fifties.
2. Evin Lewis
Evin Lewis is another attacking and blistering left-handed top-order batter for West Indies in the shorter formats. Lewis played his first T20 international in 2016 and has since played in 50 matches. In 49 innings, he has scored 1423 runs at an average of 30.93, with 12 fifties to his name. His highest T20I score is 125 against India.
3. Marlon Samuels
Marlon Samuels was a right-handed top-order batter from Kingston, Jamaica. He was also a part-time right-arm off-spinner. In 2007, he played his first T20 international against England at The Oval. Until 2018, he played in 67 T20Is and scored 1611 runs at an average of 29.29 with ten half-centuries to his name.
4. Nicholas Pooran
Next on the list is West Indies’ current white-ball captain and a blistering and dashing left-handed wicketkeeper batter, Nicholas Pooran. Having made his T20I debut in 2016 against Pakistan, Pooran quickly rose through the ranks and became an essential member of the West Indies white-ball team. He has 1398 runs to his name in 67 matches at an average of 27.41, including nine fifties.
5. Lendl Simmons
Next on the list is Lendl Simmons, a right-handed opening batter from Port of Spain, Trinidad. Simmons began his T20 international career in 2006 against England. In 68 T20Is, he scored 1527 runs at an average of 26.78 with nine fifties to his name and had the highest score of 91 not out. He last played a T20I in 2021 against Pakistan at Dubai.
6. Andre Fletcher
Andre Fletcher is another explosive and stroke-playing right-handed top-order batter for the West Indies. Fletcher hails from Grenada and started playing T20 internationals in 2008. Until 2021, he played in 54 matches and scored close to 1000 runs at an average of 21.11 with six fifties to his name.
7. Kieron Pollard
Kieron Pollard, a former West Indies captain and one of the most popular T20 players in the world, is the next name on the list. Pollard began his T20 international career in 2008 and played in 101 matches until 2022. He scored 1569 runs, averaging 25.30 and hitting six half-centuries.
8. Brandon King
Next, we have Brandon King, a right-handed top-order batter from Kingston, Jamaica. King made his T20 international debut in 2019 against Afghanistan at Lucknow, and since then has been in and out of the team several times. So far, until 2022, he has played in 28 T20Is and has scored 630 runs at an average of 25.20, including five fifties.
9. Rovman Powell
Rovman Powell, the big power-hitter and middle-order batter from Jamaica, is next on the list. Powell started off his T20I career in 2017 against Pakistan at Bridgetown and has since played in 50 matches. In 41 innings, he has scored 826 runs at an average of 25.03 with five fifties to his name, which includes a hundred.
10. Johnson Charles
Johnson Charles was a right-handed top-order wicketkeeper batter from St. Lucia. He featured for West Indies in T20Is from 2011 to 2016 and played in 34 matches, scoring 724 runs at an average of 21.93. He hit four fifties in his T20I career, with his highest score of 84 against England.
