Every 4 years, the International Cricket Council (ICC) organizes the Women’s World Cup. Many female batters have become ambassadors of the game since and have been ahead of their male counterparts in many aspects of the game. For example, the first 200+ individual score in ODI (across both genders) was achieved by Australia’s Belinda Clarke. Let me bring you the Top 10 Highest Individual Scores In Women’s World Cup-

1. Belinda Clarke (229*)

The 1997 edition was hosted by India. In a match between Australia and Denmark in Mumbai, Australia chose to bat first. The 168-run opening stand between captain Belinda Clarke and Lisa Keightley kicked off the inning for Australia. Australia ended up posting 412/3 (only 400+ score in tournament history). Clarke smashed 229 not out (22 fours). Denmark was dismissed for only 49 in the second innings. Australia won by 363 runs (the largest margin of victory by runs in the history of the tournament).

2. Chamari Athapaththu (178*)

Sri Lanka and Australia clashed in 2017 in Bristol. Australia won the toss and bowled first. Sri Lanka posted a competitive score of 257/9. But it was a single-handed effort from Chamari Athapaththu who alone scored 178* out of those 257 runs. This amounts to a run percentage of 69.26% (the highest percentage in a completed WODI inning). 124 (most runs scored in boundaries in WODI) of those runs came from 22 fours and 6 sixes. However, Australia comfortably won the match by 8 wickets.

3. Charlotte Edwards (173*)

In the 19th match of the 1997 edition, England played against their neighboring Ireland in Pune. After deciding to bat first, the opener Charlotte Edwards scored a mountainous 173* in 155 balls with the help of 19 fours. Jane Smit scored an unbeaten 50. England posted 324/3.  Melissa Reynard picked up 4 wickets in the second inning to shoot down Ireland for only 116.

4. Harmanpreet Kaur (171*)

It was the second semi-final of the 2017 edition between India and Australia in Derby. Australia were the heavy favorites, enjoying a head-to-head dominance of 9-2 in World Cups. Australia started well and had the Indians in trouble at 35-2 in 9.2 overs. After that, the incoming batters were mere spectators. Most of the run-scoring was done by No. 4 batter Harmanpreet Kaur who smashed a 115-ball-171* (20 fours, 7 sixes). This was the highest individual score in knockouts. India posted 281/4 in 42 overs (the match was shortened by rain). India eventually prevailed by 36 runs.

5. Stafanie Taylor (171)

West Indies and Sri Lanka played a Group A match in 2013 in Mumbai. Sri Lankan women won the toss and chose to bowl first. West Indies opener Stafanie Taylor smashed a monstrous 171 off just 137 deliveries with the help of 18 fours and 2 sixes. Deandra Dottin (50 off 22) and captain Merissa Aguilleira (47* off 24) helped Taylor to post 368/8. In the end, West Indies won by 209 runs.
