One Day International matches came into action during the 1970s and are currently the most-watched game format. The ODI is a submission of 50 overs and involves a game between two international teams. Heretofore many great players have played this format and scored many runs. The Afghan cricket team played its first ODI against Pakistan in Sharjah, UAE, in February 2012.

The Afghanistan cricket team may not have been dominant in the ODI, but their players have shown many astonishing moments.

1. Afghanistan's cricket squad set a new record in One-Day International cricket on March 17, 2017. Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring 338 runs at a stake of losing all their wickets, with a remarkable run rate of 6.76 against Ireland at Greater Noida, India. Paul Stirling, who scored 95 runs and took six wickets, was named Player of the Match for Ireland's spirited performance.

2. Afghanistan's cricket squad went on to post their second-highest ODI total on February 9, 2018. Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 333 runs for the loss of five wickets against Zimbabwe at Sharjah Stadium in the United Arab Emirates. Afghanistan's cricket team won the match by 154 runs, at a run rate of 6.6. Rahmat Shah reached a century with the bat and struck a wicket with the ball.

3. The Afghanistan cricket team took on the Ireland cricket team at the Belfast stadium in Northern Ireland on May 21, 2019. The cricket team of Ireland won the toss and chose to bat. Afghanistan's cricket squad went on to win their third-best batting total in an ODI inning after being sent to bat. With a run rate of 6.1, they scored 305 runs while losing seven wickets. In their pursuit of the aim, the Ireland cricket team scored 179 runs for the cost of ten wickets. The Afghan cricket team triumphed by 126 runs, which enabled the two-match ODI series to a close.

4. Afghanistan cricket team made their fourth-highest score in a One Day International match on May 2, 2014. At the venue of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Afghanistan cricket team made 302 runs at the loss of five wickets and won by 70 runs by defeating the opponent team, the United Arab Emirates. Mohammad Nabi has declared the Player of the match, and the run rate of the winning team in the particular game was 6.04.

5. The Afghanistan cricket team scored their fifth-highest ODI score when they met the Scotland cricket team at the Stadium of Benoni, South Africa. On April 19, 2009, the Afghanistan cricket team won the toss and batted first. They scored 295 runs by losing eight wickets and had a run rate of 5.9. The Afghanistan cricket team won the match by 89 runs in response, Scotland cricket team scored 206 runs for the loss of all of their wickets. Mohammad Nabi was declared the Player of the Match award for his knock of 58 runs off 64 balls.

6. On March 15, 2017, the Afghanistan cricket team scored their sixth-best score in an ODI inning. They bombarded the arch-rivals Ireland cricket team by smashing an astonishing total of 292 runs. They lost seven wickets and had a run rate of 5.84. The venue for the match was Greater Noida. In response, the opponent team scored 262 all out. The Player of the Match award was entitled to William Porterfield (119 [98]).

7. On February 16, 2010, as part of the tour to the UAE, the Afghanistan cricket team played against the Canada cricket team in Sharjah, UAE. The Canadian cricket team won the toss and chose to field first. The Afghanistan cricket team smashed 289 runs, making it their seventh-highest score in ODI innings with the loss of 6 wickets. It was a tight match as the Canadian cricket team was a two-run shot from winning the game. They scored 288 runs.

8. On July 4, 2019, at the Leeds Stadium, England, the Afghanistan cricket team faced the West Indies, Cricket team. The West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first. They put a massive score on the board, scoring 311 at a run rate of 6.22 for the loss of six wickets. Afghanistan, in their run-chase, scored 288 runs, which became their eighth-highest ODI innings score. They lost all their wickets and had a run rate of 5.76. Shai Hope was declared Player of the Match for his brilliant 77 runs off 92 balls.

9. In one of the recent matches, the Afghanistan cricket team made their ninth-highest score in a One-Day International. On January 21, 2021, Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu-Dhabi, was chosen to be the venue for the game in which Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored an overwhelming score of 289 at a loss of nine wickets with a run rate of 5.74 against Ireland.

10. On July 4, 2016, the Afghanistan cricket team made their tenth highest score against the Scotland team at Edinburgh. Scotland won the toss and made Afghanistan bat first. Afghanistan scored 283 at a run rate of 5.97 and lost four wickets. The Afghan team could not finish the game due to an unforeseen circumstance, and hence there were no results for the game, but still, it counted as their 10th highest score.
