You know that Cricket is known to be a gentleman's game. But what it's also known to be is a lazy sport. Most of the time, it engages only a team playing the sport at that instant, unlike football that involves all the players playing very aggressively. Although it is a lazy sport with relatively very little aggressive nature, it is still prone to accidents. Few of these accidents were fatal and could cost people's lives. Just keep reading to know about such accidents that have ever occurred in the history of Cricket.

I am sure that most of us still haven't forgotten young Phillip Hughes' demise on the ground. When he was playing the Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground between South Australia and New South Wales on 25 November 2014, an unfortunate accident took place. He was batting on 63 runs, while Sean Abbott of New South Wales bowled a bouncer, to which Hughes attempted a hook shot. He missed it, and the ball hit an unprotected area below his left ear, leading to a hemorrhage and his consequent death. His death called for improvements in the protective gear by cricket councils worldwide.

Jasper Vinall is an English-born cricketer who is the first cricketer to have lost his life to an accident on the cricket field. The accident took place back in 1624 when he got struck by a bat when a batsman tried to hit the ball twice not to get caught. 8. Nari Contractor

Most of the older cricket fans might still remember India's former captain, Nari Contractor. He was also involved in one of the nastiest accidents that happened in the history of Cricket. The ball just hit him in the back of the skull and left him paralyzed from the waist down with certain other complications. Out of all the consequences he had to face after the accident, ending his cricket career forever was the worst.
