One of the most exciting and unique ways to get out in cricket is Hit-wicket. In Hit-wicket, the batter unintentionally hits their wicket/stump with their bat or body, and the bails lights up or falls which indicates the loss of that particular batter’s wicket. Sometimes, the batter is too much inside the crease, and they lose their balance while hitting the ball. This is the rarest dismissal but it has happened with many legendary batters.

1. Jos Butler
Joseph Charles Butler is England’s modern-day batting prodigy. The wicketkeeper-batter is known for his phenomenal batting. He is amongst the finest white ball batters, and his white ball skills are even reflected in test cricket.
Sometimes, these fast-paced batting skills bring them trouble. In a test match against the ace team Australia in Adelaide ground, Jos got out by a hit-wicket when he was playing on 26 runs and had spent almost 258 minutes on the crease. He was in great form and was playing aggressive cricket. Later he lost his balance and hit his stump and got out. The dismissal became the highlight of the game.
2. Angelo Mathews
Sri Lanka’s one of the finest and most aggressive batters, Angelo Davis Mathews, is the most celebrated cricketer there. His all-rounding skills in white-ball cricket speak volumes about him. He is a phenomenal player when it comes to white-ball cricket. But over the recent years, he has proved himself in test cricket.
In a recent test match this year in February against Afghanistan, he got out unusually by hit-wicket. He was batting phenomenally and was closer to achieving a milestone of 150 runs. Still, unfortunately, he got imbalanced and accidentally hit his stump and got out on 141 runs after spending a reasonable amount of time on the crease about 331 minutes.
3. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli is India’s most talented and celebrated cricketer in the world. He is known for his exceptional skill and technique. His consistency in all the formats of the game has made him what he is today and holds a lot of records under his name. He symbolizes passion and grit in his game, which relates to many people.
In a surprising turn of events, Kohli got hit-wicket facing Chris Jordan’s short-pitched delivery. Kohli went too far back in the crease while hitting the ball, and the dismissal surprised both Kohli and his fans.
4. Peter Handscomb
Peter Handscomb is a professional cricketer hailing from Australia and is known for many hit-wicket dismissals. During the third test match against Pakistan at the Sydney ground, Peter was batting on 110 but unfortunately, his bat hit the stump and the bails got off, which was later declared out by the umpire.
5. Sai Sudharsan
A young left-hand batting prodigy from India, Sai Sudharsan left his impact in IPL after the covid years. The talented batter hailing from Tamil Nadu played for Gujrat Titans in IPL. In 2022, Sai got out on hit-wicket in a match against Mumbai Indians. Unfortunately, he went too back in the crease resulting in his wicket.
6. Jonny Bairstow
Jonny Bairstow is an English batter who played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL. In a match against Punjab Kings, Bairstow got out on hit-wicket in 2019, which is quite a rare site. He accidentally dislocated the bails and they fell off the wicket indicating a clear-out. He was playing a shot against spinner Ravi Bishnoi. Later in 2021 again he got out on hit-wicket against Mumbai Indian’s bowler Krunal Pandya.

India’s ace white ball allrounder, Hardik Pandya has also faced a similar dismissal in IPL in 2020 in a match against KKR. Hardik is always in the limelight whether it be his personal or professional life. His dismissal also became one of the hot topics of Hardik Pandya. He was playing an aggressive inning of 15 runs off eight balls. He faced Harry Gurney’s short ball and wanted to pull it but unfortunately, his leg made contact with the stumps and eventually, he got out.
8. Riyan Parag
Riyan Parag is the young allrounder who plays for Rajasthan Royals in IPL. He was dismissed by the hit-wicket method in year the 2021 against Kolkata Knight Riders. In the 18th over, he was playing on eight runs off nine balls, and Andre Russell came into play. He was trying to pull the short ball but went too back in the crease, brushed his bat to the stump, and was declared out. It is one of the very notable dismissals as it is infrequent to occur in cricket history.
9. Sheldon Jackson
Sheldon Jackson, the ace wicketkeeper-batter who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL. He was dismissed by hit-wicket during a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2022. In the 13th over, Jackson was on 14 runs off 14 balls when he played a shot against RCB’s spinner Wanindu Hasaranga. His back foot hit the stumps and eventually got out. The bails got dislocated and lights turned on of the bails. The incident was much discussed that night.
10. David Warner
David Warner is Australia’s one of the best batters from Australia. He was dismissed by hit-wicket in 2016 in a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore against the bowler Shane Harwood. Warner was playing at three runs off five balls when he got out. When he played a shot, his back foot made contact with stumps and the bails got dislocated and he was giving hit-wicket out.
