There have often been instances when cricketers have gone overboard with their emotions. These cricketers often become emotional while playing cricket. For the sake of winning the game, some players also indulge in foul play. Cricket is a gentleman’s game, and any cricketer who makes foul play gets punished. Let us look at some cricketers who got suspended.

1. Danushka Gunathilaka

Danushka Gunathilaka is a national player for Sri Lanka Cricket. He received a suspension from all forms of cricket with immediate effect by the organization's executive committee. The committee also decided not to consider him for any selections after learning that he had been detained and accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Australia.

2. Steve Smith

Following the ball-tampering fiasco in South Africa, Cricket Australia (CA) announced that Steve Smith had been suspended from domestic and international cricket. He was suspended for a year for violating their code of conduct. Additionally, it was necessary to complete 100 hours of volunteer work in community cricket.

3. David Warner

Warner, the former vice-captain who was heavily involved in the creation of the strategy, will no longer be considered by CA for a high leadership position in the future. After the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa, he was also given a 12-month ban from all local and international cricket for violating their code of conduct.

4. S Sreesanth

He was a right-arm fast-medium bowler and tail-ender who played for Kerala and Rajasthan Royals, respectively, in the Indian Premier League. He is also the first Ranji cricketer from Kerala to have represented India in Twenty20 cricket. Because of charges of match-fixing, he received a lifetime ban.

5. Mohammed Azharuddin

During the 1990s, the Indian team was led by the famous and elegant middle-order batsman in 47 Test matches. His international playing career controversially ended in 2000 after he was charged in the infamous match-fixing case. He received a lifetime ban from the BCCI. He was an excellent cricketer and was considered one of the greatest captains of all time.

6. Ajay Jadeja

Jadeja represented India in 196 One Day Internationals and 15 Test matches. His cricketing accomplishments were overshadowed by a 5-year suspension for match-fixing. After the Delhi High Court overturned the suspension, Jadeja was permitted to participate in local and international cricket. Jadeja became the primary coach of the Delhi cricket team in 2015, but he later left the position. Currently, Jadeja is a cricket commentator.

7. Shaiman Anwar

Shaiman Anwar rose to prominence during the 2015 World Cup. He was one of the UAE’s top competitors and performers. The player from Sialkot, however, was given an 8-year suspension in 2021 due to his attempt to manipulate games. According to sources, Anwar attempted to rig matches during the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier.

8. Umar Akmal

Umar Akmal was one of the greatest Pakistani cricketers. He ruined his career because of foul play. For failing to disclose information about corrupt approaches made to him immediately before the commencement of the fifth Pakistan Super League, Akmal got suspended in February 2020. He received an 18-month suspension. Later, this changed to a one-year hiatus.

9. Marlon Samuels

Marlon Samuels, a West Indies all-arounder, has received a 12-month ban from bowling in international cricket after his bowling action was unlawful for the second time since December 2013. Only after this period does the ICC review the offspinner's performance. Marlon Samuels was reported three times by the ICC because of his bowling action. Ultimately, he was suspended for 12 months for his offense.

10. Muhammad Amir

In August 2010, the Pakistani cricketer Muhammad Amir planned bowling no-balls versus England. He was found guilty of conspiring to accept corrupt payments and to cheat at gambling. The Southwark Crown Court in England sentenced him to six months in a juvenile offender’s facility in November 2011. He got suspended for five years from playing cricket. Along with him, cricketer Mohammad Asif got suspended for seven years.
