Australia is one of the most dominating cricket teams to exist. They have won five ICC World Cup championship titles. In total of 978 matches that Australia has played, they have a winning percentage of 63.39%, the third highest in 50 overs format. Australia holds the record of most consecutive games won (21) in a year 2003 - 2004. Players like Ricky Ponting, Brett Lee, and Glenn McGrath hold several records for the Australian cricket team in ODI. Unfortunately, they also find a place in the most ducks in ODI. Even the more prominent players in a most commanding team crumble a few instances and walks back without scoring runs. 1. Ricky Ponting

The legendary Australian Cricketer and two-time former World cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting register the most ducks by an Australian player in One-day Internationals. In a total of 365 innings that he played; he has turned out to pavilion 20 times without scoring runs.  It is no surprise that with higher innings played, the count of going out in Duck could also be higher. Pointing scored 13704 runs which is just below Sachin Tendulkar and Kumara Sangakkara record of highest runs scored in ODI. To all the milestones that he as achieved and being one of the greatest in Australian cricket, the higher number of ducks won't bother him much.

2. Adam Gilchrist

The stylish left-hander and former wicketkeeper of the Australian Cricket Team have played 279 innings in his career span of 12 years (1996 - 2008) and has registered 19 ducks to the list. Adding to this, he has been dismissed four times on the very first ball in the ODI format. Gilchrist is known for aggressive batting and tries to go for the shot from the first ball. Gilchrist has been a critical player since the early 2000s for the Australian team, scoring 9619 runs with 16 hundreds and 55 fifties. It is no surprise that intention to strike from the word go could have misfired 19 times.

3. Brett Lee

The quickie fast bowler from the Australian Cricket team, Bret Lee, is recognized as one of the fastest bowlers in the world, has joined the unwanted of most ducks list that he wouldn't have wanted. In a total of 110 innings, Bret Lee dismissed at Zero runs 16 times. In the 2009 Australia vs. England series, he got dismissed in his first ball for three consecutive times. Lee has won two ICC World Cups with his team, and he became the first Australian player to take a hat-trick in the World Cup in 2003.

4. Aaron Finch  

Former Australian captain and recently retired Aaron Finch led his team to the victory of ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The aggressive power hitter had always found a problem when the ball started to swing, especially with in-swingers. Opponent bowlers have targeted his weak link every time he steps onto the crease, and the batter has fallen into their trap most of the time. Finch has 16 ducks in the 142 innings of his ODI career. With 17 centuries and 30 fifties, he has scored 5406 runs. In September 2022, after playing for 12 years, Finch announced his retirement from One-day internationals.

5. Mark Waugh

The Strokes of Mark Waugh are still regard as one of the most delightful and exquisite batting. His on-drive, pull-shots, and loft of the ball effortlessly gives a nightmare to the bowlers. However, he registered 16 times ducks in his 14 years career of 236 innings. He scored 8500 runs with 18 centuries and 50 fifties. At times, he was criticized for his lazy-looking shots and lapse in concentration while batting. He scored three hundred in the 1996 ICC world cup, becoming the first player to do in the grandest stage. He was also part of the 1999 ICC world cup when Australia won their 2nd title.

6. Craig McDermott

McDermott was Australia's strike bowler in the early 1990s. Coming to bat at the lower down the order, McDermott has 15 ducks in 78 innings. He just scored 432 runs with an average of 7.08. He also got dismissed without scoring runs three consecutive times against India, and New Zealand in 1986. As a bowler, with his side-arm actions, he impressed everyone with his pace, bounce and ability to swing the ball. McDermott played a vital role in helping his team to win their maiden ICC World Cup in 1987. He was also the bowling coach of the Australian cricket team between 2011 - 2012 while returning in 2014 with two years contract.

7. Andrew Symonds

The Late Australian all-rounder, who highly contributed to his team in the early 2000s has 15 ducks in 161 innings. His form went into a deep hole when he didn't score a single run in three consecutive matches in 2004. Being born in Birmingham, Symonds always wished to play for Aussies. Assigned the role of the finisher, the power hitter Andrew Symonds likes to get going from the first ball. With 30 fifties and 6 tons, he scored 5088 runs in the One-Day format. He was part of two World Cup winning celebrations, 2003 and 2007. The nature took his life very early. He passed away at the age of 47.

8. Steve Waugh

One of the greatest of Australian cricket and an inspiration to many current cricketers to take up cricket, Steve Waugh has walked back to the dressing room 15 times without scoring runs in 288 innings. He scored 7569 runs at an average of 32.90 and at a strike rate of 75.10 which is near as his twin brother Mark Waugh stats. He was part of the Australian team when they won their maiden ICC World Cup in 1987 and also captained the side in 1999 when they won their 2nd Cup. In his retiring match, the God of cricket Sachin Tendulkar went on to call Steve Waugh "An inspiration" in 2004."

9. Glen McGrath

Glenn McGrath is one of greatest cricketers of all time in Test and one-day format. In the 2003 World Cup, McGrath registered the best bowling figures of all time, in a World Cup, with a spell of 7/15 with Namibia. He also won the player of the series award in 2007 World Cup, which Australia eventually won for the fourth time. However, McGrath has severe issues with his batting. He just scored 115 runs in 68 innings which 14 times he returned without scoring runs. He hasn't scored a hundred or fifty in his One Day career.

10. Kim Hughes

In a shorter career, Kim Hughes faced many difficulties and hardships. He was a right-handed batsman and was part of the Australian team between 1977 - 1985. In his total 88 innings, Hughes got out 12 times without putting anything to the scoreboard. He scored 1968 runs with an average of 24. He is one of a beautiful stroke masters coming from the middle order. He managed to score 17 half-centuries in 50-over format. After retirement, Hughes was also held on to chairman of selector for a while, to the Western Australian Cricket Association and did commentary for ABC's radio cricket coverage.
