This is India’s highest score against the West Indies in the test format. West Indies toured India in 2018 and played the first match of the series on 4th October in Rajkot. It was Prithvi Shaw’s debut test match, and he played like an absolute superstar. India notched up 649 runs, thanks to the blistering knock by Shaw, who scored 134 runs, including 19 fours. His knock was appreciated well by the skipper, Virat Kohli, who himself got to his century and scored 139. It was Ravindra Jadeja’s turn at the back end of the innings who scored a fine 100 , including five 4s and five 6s. India bowled out West Indies twice within their total and won the match by an innings and 272 runs.

In the sixth test of the West Indies tour of India in 1979, India opted to bat first on the 2nd of February. Skipper Sunil Gavaskar made 40 runs with five 4s and two 6s. Gundappa Viswanath, Anshuman Gaekwad, and Mohinder Amarnath scored 179, 102, and 101, respectively to take India to a mammoth total of 644/7. India decided to declare their innings. On the pitch of Nagpur during the West Indies tour of India in 1994, India batted first and scored 546 runs in the first innings.  There were some great efforts with the bat by Navjot Sidhu, Sachin Tendulkar, and the skipper Mohammad Azharuddin who scored 107, 179, and 97, respectively.
