ICL was the first t20 league started in India by the zee group which had both Indian and International cricketers. The league commenced in 2007 and BCCI did not recognize the league because of their apprehensions about the concept of t20 format of cricket. The players who participated in that league were banned from playing international cricket. The reason for such a ban was that BCCI did not want the ICL to succeed as they were planning their own t20 league the IPL. They also have a lot of money which makes them a powerful board and they have a lot of say in the ICC. The ICL ended in 2009 when BCCI offered the ICL cricketers to comeback into the BCCI fold. which all the cricketers agreed to.
