Cricket is known for outstanding sportsmanship and great players who hold the most significant records in cricket history. However, along with the records that showcase the success of some players, some other players also hold few records that tend to put them in a comical light. In this article we will be looking at ten players with such unwanted records to their names.

1. Sanath Jayasuriya

Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya has the unwanted record of having the highest number of ducks to his name. With a total of 34 ducks, Jayasuriya created a record worth mentioning. Among these, he endured the fate of 34 golden ducks, where he got out on the first ball he faced. However, this record is not enough to deny the fact that Sanath Jayasuriya was an explosive opener and crucial all-rounder for his national team.

2. Rahul Dravid

Known as “The Wall of India,” the esteemed Rahul Dravid has found himself associated with a rather unenviable record. He has the distinction of being bowled the greatest number of times, the unfortunate event transpiring on 55 occasions. However, this statistic is too tiny to overshadow his numerous achievements and contributions to not only the game.

3. Mutthiah Muralitharan

Muralitharan has the remarkable distinction of having the most ducks in his combined career across ODI, Test, and T20 formats. With an astonishing tally of 59 ducks in 328 innings, this record shows the all-rounder ability of Mutthiah Muralitharan and how he was able to make a significant impact on the game with his bowling prowess while sometimes enduring misfortune with the bat.

4. Wasim Akram And Inzamam Ul Haq

Even though both names are some of the most renowned names in the history of cricket, this Pakistani batting pair has seemed to have fallen trap to the confusion on-field as they have the record of being run out most significant number of times, with a staggering count of 38 run outs each.  This record is a testament to the intricacies of running between wickets while playing cricket on the international stage.

5. Sunil Gavaskar

The legendary Sunil Gavaskar is known to have etched in his name the slowest innings ever in cricket history in a One-day international match. He made a remarkable score of 36 off 174 staggering deliveries. This unforgettable inning demonstrated Gavaskar's unwavering determination and ability to adapt to challenging conditions.

6. Ajit Agarkar

India’s tour of Australia during 1999-2000 turned out to be unfortunate for Ajit Agarkar as he achieved a streak of seven shocking ducks which included four golden ducks. When Ajit managed to get out of the streak, he was welcomed with applause from the crowd and raised his bat in response to the gesture.

7. Stuart Broad

Prominent English bowler Stuart Broad not only has the record of being hit for six sixes in an over by Yuvraj Singh but also has the unwanted record of conceding 35 runs in an over in the test series against India in 2021, that too while Jasprit Bumrah was on the receiving end.

8. Umar Akmal

Pakistani cricketer and batter Umar Akmal has the unwanted record of being dismissed thrice in just 24 hours.

9. Mohammad Sami

Pakistani pacer Mohammad Sami bowled a 17-ball over, which had seven wides and four no balls in it, against Bangladesh in the 2004 Asia cup. This over is the longest over ever bowled in cricket history and unfortunately Mohammad Sami has this unwanted record to his name.

10. Surya Kumar Yadav

Even though Surya Kumar Yadav is ranked the no. 1 T20i batter and is nicknamed Sky due to his range of shots and the big sixes he hits, he has a record that no batter would ever want. Sky got out , all of them golden ducks , three consecutive times, all ducks happening against Australia in the India vs Australia ODI series 2023.
