At the end of league stage in every IPL season, the teams are ranked on the basis of points. On the occasion of teams having the same points and same number of wins, they are ranked on the basis of Net Run Rate (NRR). NRR is a quantity that measures the margin of victories. A high NRR denotes that the particular team has been dominating in their wins and in defeats they have not let their opponents dominate. We will now have a look at the Top 10 NRRs across all IPL seasons.

1. Rajasthan Royals (2008)

Rajasthan Royals had a dream run in the 2008 season. Despite having a lot of unknown domestic players in their squad, they dominated the league stage. At the end of the league stage, they ended up first in the points table. Eventually they ended up becoming the champions.

At the end of league stage Rajasthan Royals ended up with an NRR of 0.632.

2. Kolkata Knight Riders (2017)

Kolkata Knight Riders had a decent season in 2017. Their NRR had a good boost due to the 82-run win against Royal Challengers Bangalore when they bowled them out for the lowest ever total in IPL. At the end of the league stage, they ended up fourth in the points table. Eventually they ended up securing the third position.

At the end of league stage Kolkata Knight Riders ended up with an NRR of 0.641.

3. Chennai Super Kings (2015)

Chennai Super Kings had a very good season in 2015. They ended up comfortably qualifying for the Qualifier 1 and also reached the finals from there on. This was the eighth IPL season and CSK had managed to reach the playoffs in all of them. At the end of the league stage, they ended up first in the points table. Eventually they ended up becoming the runners up.

At the end of league stage Chennai Super Kings ended up with an NRR of 0.709.

4. Mumbai Indians (2017)

Similar to the above case, Mumbai Indians had an excellent run in the group stage. The only blemish in an otherwise good run to the finals, was that, they had lost to the Rising Pune Supergiant all three times they faced them before the finals. They ended up facing them again in the finals. At the end of the league stage, they ended up first in the points table. Eventually they ended up becoming the champions.

At the end of league stage Mumbai Indians ended up with an NRR of 0.784.

5. Royal Challengers Bangalore (2016)

This season saw many high scoring matches, especially from Royal Challengers Bangalore. Their captain Virat Kohli scored 973 runs which still remains as the record for highest ever runs scored in a single IPL season. They had a 144-run win against Gujarat Lions in the season which helped in boosting the NRR. At the end of the league stage, they ended up second in the points table. Eventually they ended up becoming the runners up.

At the end of league stage Royal Challengers Bangalore ended up with an NRR of 0.932.

6. Chennai Super Kings (2009)

Coming in as the runners up of the previous season, CSK put up a good show, having a good season. They had 8 wins, 5 defeats with one matched having no result. At the end of the league stage, they ended up second in the points table. Eventually they ended up losing in the semifinals.

At the end of league stage Chennai Super Kings ended up with an NRR of 0.951.

7. Kings XI Punjab (2014)

This was the best ever season for Kings XI Punjab. They had won 11 out of 14 matches and had a dominant run till the playoffs. However, they lost a close match in the finals against Kolkata Knight Riders. At the end of the league stage, they ended up first in the points table. Eventually they ended up becoming the runners up.

At the end of league stage Kings XI Punjab ended up with an NRR of 0.968.

8. Royal Challengers Bangalore (2015)

Royal Challengers Bangalore had a significant NRR boost when they trounced Kings XI Punjab by 138 runs, courtesy a 57-ball 117 by Chris Gayle. Royal Challengers Bangalore were placed below Mumbai Indians despite having the same number of points and a better NRR because they had one win less than Mumbai Indians. This cost RCB a berth in the Qualifier 1. At the end of the league stage, they ended up third in the points table. Eventually they ended up securing the third position.

At the end of league stage Royal Challengers Bangalore ended up with an NRR of 1.037.

9. Mumbai Indians (2010)

Mumbai Indians was the most dominant team in the league stage by a stretch. They had 10 wins and a high NRR. They went on to go to the finals of the season. At the end of the league stage, they ended up first in the points table. Eventually they ended up becoming the runners up.

At the end of league stage Mumbai Indians ended up with an NRR of 1.084.

10. Mumbai Indians (2020)

Despite having a win less than that of 2010 season, this is considered to be the most dominant season by Mumbai Indians. The difference between them and the rest was so high, that them winning the title was not a matter of if, but how. At the end of the league stage, they ended up first in the points table. Eventually they ended up becoming the champions.

At the end of league stage Mumbai Indians ended up with an NRR of 1.107.
