World Cup is a tournament of one-day international cricket. To date, we have witnessed a total of 12 World cups. It started in the year 1975 and the very recent World Cup was played in the year 2019. In the year 1996 Sri Lanka managed to win the World Cup. Many great knocks were played by the Sri Lankan batsmen in that tournament. In this article, we will discuss the various high scorers of Sri Lanka in the 12 editions of the world cup.

1. Tillakaratne Dilshan (161)

The highest score for Sri Lanka in a world cup match was scored by Tillakaratne Dilshan. In the 2015 world cup, Sri Lanka was playing a match against Bangladesh in the Melbourne Cricket ground. In the match, Dilshan played an excellent inning of 161 off146 deliveries. His innings consisted of 22 fours.

2. Arvinda de Silva (145)

The second Sri Lankan on the list is Arvinda de Silva. In the 1996 World Cup Arvinda de Silva played an inning of 145 off 115 deliveries that consisted of 14 fours and 5 sixes in a match against Kenya. This inning is the second-highest score by any Sri Lankan in a world cup match.

3. Tillakaratne Dilshan (144)

Tillakaratne Dilshan is also the third-highest scorer for Sri Lanka in the world cups. Dilshan has played various incredible knocks for Sri Lanka. In the 2011 world cup Dilshan played a crucial knock of 144 runs off 131 deliveries against Zimbabwe that consisted of 16 boundaries and a single six.

4. Lahiru Thirimane (139)

Lahiru Thirimane is the fourth-highest run-scorer for Sri Lanka in a world cup match. Sri Lanka was playing a match against England in the 2015 world cup where Lahiru Thirimane played an exceptional knock of 139 runs off 143 deliveries. His innings consisted of 13 boundaries and two sixes. He also played the innings at an exceptional strike rate of 97.2.

5. Upul Tharanga (133)

In the 2011 world cup, the match in which Dilshan scored 144 runs against Zimbabwe, in that similar match Upul Tharanga also played an exceptional inning of 133 off 141 deliveries. He played the innings at a strike rate of 94.32 and the innings also consisted of 17 fours. This was one of the best-ever innings played by Tharanga.

6. Kumar Sangakkara (124)

Next on the list is the former Sri Lankan captain as well as wicketkeeper batsmen Kumar Sangakkara. In the 2015 world cup, Sri Lanka was playing a match against Scotland where Kumar Sangakkara played an excellent knock of 124 off 95 deliveries. The innings consisted of 13 boundaries and 4 huge sixes.

7. Marvan Atapattu (124)

In the 2003 World Cup, the former Sri Lankan legend Marvan Atapattu played an exceptional inning against South Africa in the Kingsmead cricket ground. The inning was also of 124 runs off 129 deliveries. The innings consisted of a total of 18 fours and he played the innings at a strike rate of 96.12.

8. Sanath Jayasuriya (120)

Sanath Jayasuriya was one of the well-known Sri Lankan openers of all time. In the 2003 World Cup, Sri Lanka was playing a match against New Zealand where Sanath Jayasuriya played a very crucial knock of 120 off 125 deliveries. The innings consisted of 14 fours and were played at a strike rate of 96.

9. Kumar Sangakkara (117)

Kumar Sangakkaraagain appears on the list as he also scored the 9th highest run by any Sri Lankan in a world cup match. In the 2015 world cup Sangakkara was playing exceptional knocks wherein in a match against England he played a knock of 117 runs off 86 deliveries which consisted of 11 fours and two sixes.

10. Angelo Mathews (113)

Angelo Mathews is the 10th highest run-scorer for Sri Lanka in the world cups. In the 2019 World Cup Angelo Mathews played an exceptional inning against India. The innings were 113 runs and came at a strike rate of 88.28. He played 128 delivery in the match and it consisted of 10 fours and two sixes.
