There is a team which is nicknamed as ‘The Lions’ in the history of cricket, and the name of the team is ‘Sri Lanka’. Sri Lanka played their first Test in 1981 and it is the 8th nation to play ‘Test cricket’. Under the captaincy of ‘Arjuna Ranatunga’ team won the cricket world cup in 1996. From there onward the cricket of ‘Sri Lanka ‘ developed into an ultimate successful team to reach the finals of 2007 & 2011 cricket World Cups consecutively. Unfortunately they end up as runners in both the events.

1. Kusal Perera

The original name of KusalPerera is ‘Mathurage Don KusalJanithPerera’. He was born on August 17, 1990. He is a former Sri Lankan captain of limited overs cricket. He is a wicket-keeper and batsman who plays as middle order batsman in all formats. He is also a key member of the 2014 T20 winning team. He is one of the permanent players and has total dismissal of ‘21’ in his ‘6’ matches of Test career.

2. Guy De Alwis

The original name of Alwis is ‘Ronald Guy De Alwis’. He was born on 15 February 1959 in Sri Lanka. Alwis has the record of highest batting averages in the 1983 World Cup. The total of 167 runs at 55.6 average with two unbeaten half centuries against Pakistan and England in the 1983 World cCup. He later passed away with cancer on 12th January 2013. He has the total dismissals of 23 in his 11 matches of Test cricket.

3. Pubudu Dassanayake

Dassanayake is a former Sri Lankan wicket-keeper and batsman. He was born in Kandy, Sri Lanka. At the age of 19 he made his debut in first-class cricket in early 1990. Eventually he made his international debut against South Africa in 1993. He played just one year as Sri Lanka's first-choice wicket-keeper. He played his last international series in 1994 against New Zealand. He has total dismissals of 24 in his 11 Test match career.

4. Amal Silva

Amal Silva is a former left-handed batsman and wicket keeper for Sri Lanka national cricket team. He was born on December 12 1960 in Moratuwa, Sri lanka. He is normally a middle order batsman, but the management asked him to deal with both the batting and wicket-keeping. Amal was able to defend the ball and he goes for attacking strokes when the situation is needed. Behind the stumps he was excellent against the pace bowlers and also for spinners.

5. Hashan Tillakaratne

The full name of Hashan is ‘Deshabandhu Hashan Prasantha Tillakaratne’, he was born on 19 July 1967. He is also a former Test captain for Sri lanka. He was also in the team when Sri Lanka won the World Cup in 1996. He has total dismissals of 35 in his 11 Test match career. He is now a politician in Sri Lanka and also making his own way in various aspects of cricket in the country.

6. Dinesh Chandimal

The full name of Chandimal is ‘Lokuge Dinesh Chandimal’, he was born on 18th November 1989. He is right-handed batsman and wicket keeper and also former captain of Sri Lanka national team in all formats. He plays in the middle order and has his best figures in making runs. Under his captaincy Sri Lanka played their first ever day-night Test match. He has the total dismissals of 72 in his 24 Test match career.

7. Romesh Kaluwitharana

The full name of the Romesh is ‘Deshabandhu Romesh Shantha Kaluwitharana’, he was born on 24th November 1969. He is also known as ‘kalu’. He is one of the best openers the Sri Lanka country ever had. He has total dismissals of 119 in his 49 Test match career. He is currently working as international cricket coach for team Malaysia. He is a smart player that he starts slowly with the new ball and goes for attacking once the ball goes old.

8. Niroshan Dickwella

The full name of Niroshan is ‘Dickwella Patabendige Dilantha Niroshan Dickwella’, shortly known as ‘NiroshanDickwella’. He was born on 23 June 1993. He is a left-handed batsman and wicket-keeper, who plays all formats of cricket. He is currently playing for Sri Lanka in all formats. He has total dismissals 135 in his past 25 Test matches (currently playing). He is known for his batting and he is capable of playing discoop shots.

9. Kumar Sangakkara

The full name of Sangakkara is ‘Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara’, he was born on 27th October 1977. He is a left-handed batsman and wicket-keeper. Sangakkara was one of the all-time best wicket keepers in the world. He is atop order batsmen and also has many records as a batsman. He is the all-time best wicket keeper and batsman that Sri Lanka has ever produced. He has total dismissals of 144 in his 48 Test matches career.

10. Prasanna Jayawardene

The full name of Jayawardene is ‘Hewasandatchige Asiri Prasana Wishvanath Jayawardene’ he was born on 10th September 1979. He is a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper. He was not playing in the current squad. He holds the highest dismissals of 156 in his 58 Test match career. He is not retired yet. Due to Kumar Sangakkara’s status he has to bat in 3 down. He donned the gloves of Sri Lanka in the Test match due to an injury against Australia.
