The IPL is known for its interesting matches and the unexpected results that it produces. Either through fantastic bowling performances or batting performances, we have seen many times that a single player makes a huge impact and wins the game for his entire team. Since 2008, there have been countless jaw-dropping moments and matches that have taken place in the IPL.

1. Punjab Kings Vs Kolkata Knight Riders (Finals 2014)

The Punjab Kings were considered the favourites of the tournament as they had massive firepower and depth in bowling. On the other hand, the Kolkata Knight Riders were considered to be a magic moment victory as somehow they managed to be on top of CSK in that IPL. With the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Saha in their top form, Punjab, despite Maxwell failing to score in finals, went to 199 points in an IPL final thanks to Saha’s century. In response to Manish Pandey’s fine 94 KKR scripted history with 2 balls remaining.

2. Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs Gujarat Lions (Qualifier 1 2016)

Royal Challengers Bangalore were considered favourites in the IPL 2016 due to Virat Kohli’s stellar run in the IPL. RCB began the match by knocking down the entire Gujarat top order, and GL was just able to make a paltry 156. In response, however, GT bowlers, especially Dhawal Kulkarni, got the RCB down to five wickets in just under 50 runs. However, it was A. B. de Villiers who single-handedly scored 79* and won RCB the match.

3. Sunrisers Hyderabad Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (Finals 2016)

RCB was on top of its game to win the IPL. They had reached the finals with Virat Kohli scoring 900 or more runs. In the game batting first, SRH crossed the 200-mark, and what seemed to be an easy win was changed into a battle by Kohli and Gayle crossing the 100-mark in just less than 8 overs. It was the SRH bowling that kept on checking, made a comeback, and won SRH the match and the season.

4. Chennai Super Kings Vs Mumbai Indians (Opening Match 2018)

The Chennai Super Kings had just come out of the ban and were playing their match against the Mumbai Indians. This is the best rivalry in the history of the IPL. MI was a driving force in the opening game. In the second inning, MI was in total control of the game, and even the commentators were discussing CSK’s next match comeback, but then Dwayne Bravo played the best of his inning and scored 68 with a strike rate of 228 to win CSK the match.

5. Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs Punjab Kings (Match 51 2013)

RCB was considered the batting powerhouse in 2013, with Chris Gayle scoring runs in every match he played. Against the Punjab Kings, he led the way for the RCB in reaching 190. In return, however, it seemed like an easy win as soon as the Punjab batting order was dumpling. It was David Miller’s career-best performance when he scored the heroic century in just 38 balls. Single-handedly winning Punjab the match.

6. Chennai Super Kings Vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (Qualifier 1 2018)

CSK’s comeback season was one of their best outings. In the first qualifier, they faced SRH, who had one of the best bowling attacks. With Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, they made the mere 140-run target a nightmare for the CSK batsmen. It was FAF’s 68* that made the Chennai Super Kings stay in the match and win it. It was a miraculous win for CSK, as no one had expected them to win with the early losses of Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, and MS Dhoni that they had suffered and Kumar and Rashid's continued bowling.

7. Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (Match 52 2015)

In the rain-affected match, the Sunrisers made their way to 135 in 11 overs, and after another rain shower, the target for RCB was 83 in 6 overs. The target seemed impossible for most reasons, but it was Virat Kohli’s magical 44* in 19 balls that made the impact and allowed the RCB to win the match. Even with Devilliers’s wicket falling into SRH’s hands, Gayle went after a powerful start. It was Virat Kohli’s diverse range of batting power that snatched the victory from the mouth of Sunrisers Hyderabad.

8. Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (Match 27 2017)

At the beginning of the match, KKR succumbed to a very low total of 131. It looked like it would be an easy victory for RCB in the match, but to everyone’s surprise, it resulted in a shameful defeat for the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the hands of the bowling attack of the Kolkata Knight Riders. The entire Bangalore team, which had the batting power of Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, and AB DeVilliers, succumbed to a score of 49 all out. This score is to date the lowest total score by any team in the history of the IPL.

9. Lucknow Supergiants Vs Gujarat Titians (Match 57 2022)

The newcomers to the IPL have made their mark in the tournament as both of the teams qualified for the playoffs, and Gujarat won the IPL and scripted history by winning in their first outing itself. In their second match, LSG’s bowling was unplayable as they restricted GT to a paltry 144. With the batting line-up, which had K L Rahul and Quinton Decock, they were miles ahead in the game. All changed when it was Gujarat’s turn in bowling, and with Rashid Khan again striking with his best, taking 4 wickets, this hampered the LSG batting and made them stop at 82 all out.

10. Chennai Super Kings Vs Kolkata Knight Riders (Match 5 2018)

CSK played at Chennai after a gap of two years. The match was against KKR, who batted first and seemingly scored a mountain of 202 runs. It was as if the match had ended at first sight. On the contrary, CSK was ready to roar back to reply to Russell’s 88*. It began a little shaky, but with Sam Billings’s half-century in about 20 balls and Shane Watson’s quick 42 in 19 balls, it paved the match in CSK’s favour.
